One Football, One Community: How Local Tournaments Are Bringing Chilomoni Together

One Football, One Community: How Local Tournaments Are Bringing Chilomoni Together

Football is becoming more than just a game in Chilomoni. Across different parts of the township, organized community football matches are creating unity, entertainment, and hope among young people. What started as simple neighborhood games has now grown into organized tournaments attracting supporters, local vendors, and football lovers every weekend. The initiative is not only helping youths showcase their talent but is also keeping many away from crime, drug abuse, and other negative activities. Speaking during an interview, one of the organizers, Wanangwa Moyo, said the main goal of the initiative is to bring young people together through sport while creating a positive environment within the community. “This is more than football. We are building unity and giving young people something positive to focus on,” said Wanangwa Moyo. Community members say the matches have brought excitement and togetherness within Chilomoni. Different teams from various sections now compete in peaceful and organized games that encourage discipline, teamwork, and respect among youths. The tournaments are also helping small businesses, especially local food vendors who experience increased sales during match days as supporters gather to watch the games. One of the organizers added that despite challenges such as limited resources and lack of sponsorship, the organizers remain committed to growing the initiative and creating more opportunities for young people in the area. Residents have welcomed the tournaments and expressed hope that more sporting activities will continue to empower youths and strengthen community relationships. As the competitions continue to grow, many residents now see football as a symbol of unity in Chilomoni proving that through sports, one community can stand together.

Chilomoni Youth Discuss Breakdown of MK5.0 Billion Community Development Fund

Chilomoni Youth Discuss Breakdown of MK5.0 Billion Community Development Fund

The Chilomoni Youth Network held a meeting today at 10:00am to discuss how the MK5.0 billion Community Development Fund (CDF) is calculated and allocated. The meeting, led by Youth Chairperson Kelvin Chingamba, brought together youth members and Village Development Committee (VDC) representatives to review the government guideline that sets aside 8% of the total CDF for specific community programs. Participants said understanding the breakdown helps them track how funds meant for development reach the grassroots level. According to the guideline, the 8% basket totals MK400 million and is divided into four areas. Youth programs receive MK100 million, while women’s programs also get MK100 million. Sports and arts are allocated MK50 million, and school bursaries receive MK150 million. Those present noted that these allocations add up to MK400 million, which represents 8% of the full CDF budget. Since MK400 million is 8% of the total, the overall CDF allocation comes to MK5.0 billion, calculated as MK400 million divided by 0.08. Chairperson Kelvin Chingamba and the VDC representatives agreed to continue engaging with local leaders to ensure the funds are used transparently for the benefit of the community. They encouraged more young people to take part in future discussions on CDF use and project monitoring.
